14th day of the hunger strike

Τhe 50 migrant workers on the 7th floor of the Labor Centre in Thessaloniki have been on hunger strike for 13 days now. The signs of fatigue and physical response to the fasting are now apparent. They are determined to continue the hunger strike. Their spirits are high.

Today, there was an assembly of immigrant organizations and the hunger strikers. Among other things, they discussed the practicalities of the protest outside the Local Government General Secretariat of Macedonia and Thrace planned for Wednesday, February 9. The meeting is set for 6pm on that day at the Labor Centre.

Today, among other messages of support, we received texts of solidarity to the 300 hunger strikers demanding the legalization of all immigrants and equal rights for all workers by the Local Initiative of Toumba Residents and by the Volunteer Veterinary Doctors group “Action for Wildlife”.

The Open Solidarity Initiative invites everyone to the interventions and solidarity actions planned for the next days:

On Tuesday, Feb 8, a march in the Western neighborhoods will depart at 6pm from the Ambelokipi Square.

On Thursday, Feb 10, a march in the Toumba area will depart at 6pm from Aghia Varvara church.

On Friday, Feb 11, a solidarity rally will start at 6pm from the Venizelou statue, as part of the countrywide and European day of solidarity actions.
