PRESS RELEASE

Signed today by the Minister of Civil Protection, Christos Papoutsis and promoted for signature to the President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias, the draft presidential decree “procedure of identification of foreigners and stateless refugee status or subsidiary protection.

The draft presidential decree must be signed by Minister of Interior, Public Administration and Decentralization Ragousis John, Minister of Justice and Human Rights Transparency Kastanidis Harris, Minister of Health and Sport Andreas Loverdos and Deputy Finance Minister Philip Sachinidis.

The draft Presidential Decree amends existing law to provide international protection to foreigners and stateless persons in our
country. The provisions drew the special Standing Committee of the Ministry of Civil Protection and finalized after taking into account the comments of the ministries.

The main provisions include:

The decentralization of institutions examining requests for international protection services in 14 of the Greek Police, in regions
where there is a large concentration of foreigners.
Enters a decision deadline 3 months in an accelerated procedure and 6 months in the normal process.
Defined as the bodies responsible decision in first grade, the Secretary General for Public Order in the normal process and the Managers of Police in charge of the investigation authorities to fast track.
Re-stage appeal or establish special committees without the participation of police officers, which will consider applications in
second grade.
Introduced transitional arrangements for the relevant bodies and the process of pending applications for international protection and appeals.
